tHE pOET

"We are symbols, and inhabit symbols; workman, work, and tools, words and things, birth and death, all are emblems; but we sympathize with the symbols, and, being infatuated with the economical uses of things, we do not know that they are thoughts. The poet, by an ulterior intellectual perception, gives them a power which makes their old use forgotten, and puts eyes, and a tongue, into every dumb and inanimate object. He perceives the independence of the thought on the symbol, the stability of the thought, the accidency and fugacity of the symbol."

Off To the SCBWI Conference in New York

I'm excited to be attending the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators winter conference in New York this year!  I have been working on a children's book series and investigating the industry for sometime now and eager to be enveloped in this environment - There are so many individuals that are tapped into the wonder~filled world of creativity in this business.  I am giddy to explore the event and it's possibilities.  (Plus I get to experience a snowy winter - a rare treat!)

Here is a blurb in reference to the Simon series:

I have loved volunteering - running the arts program for elementary school kids, and being in the classrooms heading up activities and study.  I have drawn a great deal of inspiration from these experiences and continue to be interested in creating opportunities for kids to be truly creative through the arts. I am acutely aware that the majority of our kids are no longer offered opportunities to explore the creative arts through the public school system, and am excited to be currently creating a solution through the vehicle of a children's book series. This character driven series weaves together creative writing, story telling, drawing, illustrating, and artistic media study. In addition, each book uniquely offers the reader the opportunity to continue the story line and illustrations using different art medium.

Home

I love the ethereal sensation that lights a smile.
When I am within this creative space, I am Home - happy, free and connected.
If "art" happens as a result of this experience,
I should think of it as a postcard,
a souvenir,
a  tangible memento
... a re~minder of this wonder~full space within all of us,
everything -
timeless,
infinite,
Home.

Barrel Of Monkeys Candelier

It's just so fun watching an idea come to life!
Now I need just a few hundred or so more monkeys
and barrels to finish it up.
