next to me

under a flowered bonnet

a few sizes too small

he enjoys

secretly

the sharp edged coffee as it dances

                      ever so often      with his gelato’s velvet glaze     

a slow,  sultry serenade of taste

he savors along - all the while

Van Gogh’s sunflowers are chain smoking ciggys on the park bench next to us

and the Herbarium is trying, desperately, not  to  cough.

(she’s so polite)...

I’m just sitting here,

waiting

          for a ride 

  pretending to watch the lawn

                                                            bowling.

Home

I love the ethereal sensation that lights a smile.
When I am within this creative space, I am Home - happy, free and connected.
If "art" happens as a result of this experience,
I should think of it as a postcard,
a souvenir,
a  tangible memento
... a re~minder of this wonder~full space within all of us,
everything -
timeless,
infinite,
Home.

Art Education - Teaching or Facilitating

Art isn't something that one can teach or one can learn. However, a person can study, investigate and explore the many art forms and expressions that are available in our world whether defined by a culture, industry or personal preferences.
Art, at least creative art, is a realm so vast, infinite and filled with unlimited potential that it cannot be approached, with any true authority, through academic institutions. In fact, I find it humorous that we even make the attempt. However, it is valuable as participants in a society to have a common language and reference base as a means of communicating and connecting with each other on a particular subject. It would be wonderful if this was the context in which art education was approached. A person could use the opportunity to study, examine and possibly even experience the various aspects of popular philosophies, techniques, disciplines and artistic movements, but this would always be kept in the context of the subject’s relativity. Too often these areas of focus are presented as absolutes, especially to our youth. Worse, they are used as a means of judging or deterring what is, ironically, in it's purest form, an expression of an individual's journey into the realms of creativity.

Kitchen Night Light

When the blender broke I thought it would make a great kitchen light - Replete with LED color changing light bulb, block guppies and slipper fish.

A simple push on the smoothie puree button illuminates the pitcher/picture.

(I was going to implant a sound card with bubble sounds or the sound of crashing waves but I figured any loop pattern would eventually end up bugging me or the fam.... but if I hooked up the switch only to the pulse button, that might work.  That way it would be a controllable, short burst of silliness.  In which case, having some random sounds like popcorn popping, fog horn, crickets etc. might take it up a few more notches of fun...)

5th Grade Recycled Art Projects - Photography

These are some of the photos that the students took of their recycled art pieces. 

They used the school's iPads, my small digital camera and iPhone 5.

The focus was on perspective, composition, lighting and exposure, experimentation and intentional blur.

Ideally they would have been able to work on them through the school's computers - giving them the opportunity to manipulate the photos and experiment with the elements of photography... but alas, we ran out of time. Maybe next year.

These were the art pieces that were part of the Recycled Art A Go-Go show held during the Friday Night @ Liberty event on June 7th 2013.
