About Me

My photo
United States
I am a multidimensional, hands-on creative artist and poet with a San Diego based home studio. Having always been too curious and too creative, I have continually studied a variety of artistic disciplines and philosophies throughout my life with established teachers...unstable teachers, artists, schools and whatnot. This, paired with a lifelong investigation into spirituality, has given me a large creative toolkit from which to draw ;) and interest to (respectively) play with, break, challenge, modify, ignore and celebrate the rules related to the aforementioned studies. I am a strong believer in not messing with a child's innate curiosity and wonder, the value of family (however defined), individual creativity, community, and our environment. I continue to study and enjoy creative expressions-with the exception of acid jazz. Some common characteristics found within my work are: re-purposing everyday items and discard-able things, harmonizing opposites, playing with current beliefs and assumptions with a whimsical twist, and delicately blending spontaneity with discipline. The end results are simple, joyful expressions of wonder imbued with an invitation to discover more.

Traducendo il Niente

Traducendo il Niente

Non importa come lo affettate
è ancora lo stesso
parlando, non dicendo niente - "che bello!"
parlando, non dicendo niente - "così tranquillo."

Pane e farfalla,
Falla ruotare e gira,
è ancora lo stesso.

Lei Sta affettando il cielo con un mazzo di denti di leone
e taglia i capelli del cammello al limite della
difficoltà.

Ancora...

Desiderando di gridar fuori,
verso l'esterno in una notte....
consumando parole con la spiegazione
viene a mancare ogni traduzione
cadendo morto su due orecchie desiderose.

The Playground

     There is  a place
where  the everything meets  the nothing
and failure’s laughter  finds no ear to hold.

Toys of words  are played upon –    supporting  weightless  bodies

and worlds of work   are tossed about    with  effortless  meaning s

 Time only tickles here
   forgetting it’s self,

and the sun only shines - from the inside  out

While the all   is forever  cared for,

                                                              regardless

                                              regardless of reality’s knots.

Resistance Is Useless

resistance is useless

like a fountain in the rain

buttercups on toast and burnt-water tea

  sledding on the milky   way

breathless chants   on a warm night   too close to the fire

sleepless days at the playground

or when light blue is caught    wearing white fluffy polka dots

but mostly
dropping  the giggle bottle –

and trying     to catch the ones that got away

Fishing For Clouds

                                            lighting smiles.
she was fishing for clouds

perched on a stream of
         contemplation

       whilst
occasionally
                            slipping into daydreams
   about
     polka dotted crows
                              and dancing cows

Les Peintres Poétiques

paintings

full of spaciousness,
no matter
the stage

clear
no matter
the brush stroke

youthful,
no matter
of age

alive and vibrant,
no matter
how dark

...there is a reason
those who were to become masters
studied in France

The Art of an Event

Princess Leia Fans

I was offered the opportunity to chair our elementary school's spring fling (a celebration of the school's birthday) for a few years and used the following philosophy as a focal point for the event.
I am really grateful for the opportunity - it was a gift in so many ways: personally, for the kids and I hope for our community.

The goal of this event is to inspire, educate and celebrate the arts through bringing together children’s playfulness, student experimentation and technical study with professional expertise. Celebrating these individual traits, together during a single event creates a unique and expansive atmosphere for all attendees.
When individuals get together and share their talents, regardless of age, a unique event is created that is not only entertaining but a celebration of individual gifts. This environment creates an opportunity to ignite within each participant a desire to explore what might be possible for themselves and their community as a whole.
...the idea of a birthday party is simple, but the possibilities of what could unfold is wonder-filled.

Ganesh

today
i stood before You
to shed my disguise as offering

there
in my naked embarrassment
You cleansed me with Love
and i died

now
clothed in Your majesty

here

I Am

overflowing
in
emptyness

Van Gogh's Bedroom Now - Replete With Traveler's Chest and Bunny Slippers

I am a big fan of the variations of The Bedroom by Van Gogh and have been blessed to see some of the originals. This is (as are all my pieces) done from feeling rather than from looking at a picture... it captures the sweetness that his pieces take me, and I like to think of him now as being in sweet place. I don't think he got to see or experience sweetness in his life time (except perhaps through painting.)

He sure has blessed us by pointing out sweetness' unique, bright essence within his paintings...

Perspective, Perception

When Alice Was Out The Chair And The Bass Liked To Talk Politics

From a series of my own technique I call Oil Pastel Stain (I miss having this one around... but at least I know the owner.)

A lion, a bee and a hummingbird go into a bar ...

the lion
strolls up to the bar
and asks for
"a courage
up, with a twist"

next
the bee
buzzes over, lands on the bar
and firmly demands
"a community
warmed in a snifter."

lastly
the hummingbird
swoops in and out
over the bar
pauses
and smiles
then quickly orders the special -
"a punch-line
neat"

Illuminated

Hand dancing, mixed media on canvas... it's sparkly.
